06-14-2006, 4:14 PM CrossMyHeart Joined on 01-08-2006 The Real OC Rank NA Cat people I had posted a while ago about getting a lap dog, but now that's out.  The girl I'm moving in with has a cat of her own that is easily spooked so I don't want to risk things with a puppy.  I'll get another cat instead. Now, I'm just wondering what to expect when introducing a kitten to an older cat.  Will that be problematic? Also, are some types of cats better tempered than others like dogs are?  What type do you suggest, if so? And I've already chosen a name, Laurier, whether it's a girl or a boy. If you get a kitten, it should acclimate to your home and other cat in no time. I got my kitten when my other cat was around 6 years old and they are perfectly fine. The older one bullies her occasionally (pounces on her, does the occasional hiss), but I think he is just being playful. Although cats are a bit territorial, they eventually adapt to newcomers on their own time. Good luck in finding the perfect kitten! They would sniff each other, meow and bat at each other underneath the doors. After a few days, we introduced them for a few minutes and worked up to longer and longer periods. This is especially important with male cats because they get territorial and will pee. Actually, if your room mate has a male, I would aim for getting a female. Male cats tend to be territorial of one another. Good luck!    Report

But if its a new place and you get a fixed girl cat (assuming hers is a boy) you should be ok, just keep an eye on them at first. Usually adult cats dont feel threatened by kittens anyway. either way im sure after a while they will get along... they might pee everywhere to mark their territory at first though haha.    Report
