Do you believe we'll ever be able to stop religious terrorism or will we be the ones who fall?  We used to be able to identify our enemies and knew they had limits. Today’s different.  Terrorism exists in the Philippines, Thailand, Nigeria, Somalia, Sudan, all over the Middle East, England, France, Spain, America, Russia, and the list goes on.  How do we "win" when our enemies embrace death? How do we keep our spirits up when kidnappings have the habit of ending with heads being slowly sawed off?   I watched a handful of documentaries and read some books about past battles, and if you look at history from the 7th and 8th centuries when the then mostly Christian Middle East and North Africa was conquered and converted, to the 17th century until the breaking of the siege of Vienna on September 11th 1683 (which stopped a Muslim conquest of Europe…new trivia I learned), Europe had a heck of a time keeping their opponents from pounding them into submission.  Spain was taken for 700 years, Sicily was conquered and Rome was sacked in the 800s and its holiest Basilica was pillaged.  Even France was almost taken in the 700s. This was back when Europe fought sensible people who followed their religion properly so how can we defeat terrorists who are constantly growing in number and don't take a second to pause before killing us or other Muslims to reach their perverted goals?   One of the videos I watched was a British special explaining why we shouldn't justify terrorism or blame ourselves for their behavior.  It's called Don't Get Me Started: There's No Excuse For Terror and is around a 1/2 an hour long if you care to watch.  The journalist in it is on the left politically so he’s concerned more with liberals, but it really applies to anyone who blames themselves or the opposing party for the action of terrorists.  But what does identifying our enemies even achieve if we can’t stop them?    Report

It’s embedded in the indoctrination that has existed in some circles for the last half century.  There are 2-3 generations of people out there who were taught to die a shahid is the sh-t, and crave to become one while slaying as many of us as they can.  We picked up on all this about 50 years too late.   The people who want us dead are the kind of maniacs I thought only existed in movies.  They are parents who’ll strap timed explosives to children with Down Syndrome.  They’re men who’ll  disguise themselves as women to enter mosques and blow themselves up. They’re people who kidnap, rape, and behead Assyrians (vid), or don’t hesitate before killing a child for laughing or for following a different religion.  They are people who’ll wipe out an entire region because they’re a different race.  They are people who’ll take a primary school hostage and murder almost 200 children or will crucify children. These are courts that sentence gang raped victims to violent lashings or families who’ll kill their own raped daughters(vid).  The only way I perceive defeating this is by lowering ourselves to their level, but losing ourselves is worse than losing.      Report

How can you do that to a kid?  Enslave him at 7, torture him constantly,  drive nails through his knees, hands, and feet, pour acid on his legs, and then crucify him?  There was a similar crucifixion done in Iraq on a 14-year-old Assyrian last week. I don't understand why the United States hasn't done more to protect the Assyrians.  When we hear about Iraq on the news, we hear about the Sunnis, Shiites, and Kurds.  There's never any mention of the Assyrians, who are the original inhabitants of the area.  They are being slaughtered right under our noses.  Don't we have an obligation to do more to protect them?    Report

Lets see...Al Gore winning any sort of prize, much less the Nobel Prize, is definite proof that this world has completely gone mad. His so-called "environmental work" is hazy at best and just spews a bunch of facts that have yet to be proved. In fact, what is PROVEN by REAL scientists and meteorologists is that nature, not man is responsible for the earth being slightly warmer now. This global warming follows a cycle and within 10-15 years we will be on our colder cycle. Basically, Al Gore never made it as a politician so he made a movie geared towards ignorant and weak ppl that need to feel as though they a part of a cause, even if the cause is totally baseless.
