Going off of Birth Control

I am thinking about going off of birth control.  I have been on it for 10 years and would simply like to get my body back to it's normal hormonal state.

Even if I am not having sex, I know this can change, but...

I also have this fear that with all the hormones, it may effect my health one day and cause problems when I do want to become pregnant.

Any advice/info???

Re: Going off of Birth Control
I know this isn't much meaningful input, but...ironically, I just decided to get off of birth control, myself. I stopped using the Nuva Ring last month, and my period is NOwhere to be found...with three negative test results. It's probably time for a visit to my gynecologist. I'm thinking my hormones are out of whack. I'll probably have a little more advice/info once I get a check up. I'll keep you posted...

But...from what I've always heard, there usually aren't adverse reactions to stopping birth control. I've always heard that it might make pregnancy a little hard to achieve for some, but otherwise, your body should regulate itself with no problems.

Good luck either way. :o)

Re: Going off of Birth Control

I went off the pill about 6-7 months ago after being on it for 10 - 11 years because I was waking up with headaches, nausea (and vomiting), and wicked mood swings.  I also felt a huge drop in my libido...

Since I came off, I lost weight, no more headaches, nausea or vomiting, and I feel 110% better.  I was afraid my face (I used to have acne in high school) would break out more, but it hasn't.  No change in PMS either (i've always had mild periods luckily).

As far as I know the only adverse affect is...if one has lost libido due to prolonged BCP usage, there are cases where it may not come back.  But usually it does, slowly, and there are ways to increase with natural supplements and what not.

I'd be more concerned about the long term effects of staying on it...as opposed to coming off.

I want my everyday to be a holiday!

Thanks for the input.

Yeah, IS--I am more certainly more concerned about the long term effects to my body.

Re: Going off of Birth Control
I just went off the birth control pill a few months ago.  I had been on it for over 12 years.  I did not have any problems coming off it, except a little break through acne (last pill I had been on was Yasmin).  It took about 5 weeks for my period to return but I'm back to my normal cycle.  I do recommend finishing a pill cycle before stopping it instead of stopping mid-cycle, or it might take a little longer for your body to re-regulate itself.
