Re: Your Dream Home

i can't find any photos of it...but

Darryl Hannah's spread.  I want that.  Total sustainable living.  Acres.

here is a little bit of verbage about it:

“My house in the Rockies was an old stagecoach stop. Its pretty small, and I restored and put solar power in, and we have spring water because there’s a spring next to it. It basically all runs on solar, and we have a back up bio-diesel generator.

“I took a barn that was being torn down to put up a new post office, all made of old growth hazel (wood), and they said that if I took it before they tore it down then I could have it. So we took it all apart and numbered it and put it back together and that’s now the winterised dwelling.

The stagecoach stop was not insulated really except with newspapers, for about a hundred years every traveller who came through would put up an extra layer of newspapers from wherever they were from, so it was not very warm but there were newspapers from the 1800s….

“Anyway, so we winterised the barn and we turned it into the hillside (on one side) and directed it towards the Southwest (on the other) so it is getting both passive and active (solar energy),

“I call it the art barn, and I have a big art space for creative endeavours, whatever that may be, music or painting or what movies or whatever.

“We also have an organic garden, and we get worm juice, ” she giggled. ” The bottom portion of it is all greenhoused in , and we let the water come running through – there’s a little creek – (which) keeps it half humidified as well and waters the plants.”

We saved the most amazing detail for last. If there was an Oscar for recyling, Daryl Hannah would be the only nominee. She has actually made a couch out of mossy stone.

“All the stone and scrub oak that needed to be moved when we put the barn in, we used it inside the house. The stone that had moss on it we use as a couch, and we water the couch to keep the moss alive.”

Re: Your Dream Home

Russell Simmons home, hands down.  Or something euro style but with a classic romantic touch out in the hamptons. Yeah, I'm lame and cliche. the hamptons. But, it just feels..nice out there.

Re: Your Dream Home

ohhh thats that house with that pool!

I saw some magazine that featured pools with that house (before it was in OC)  the water just falls over the edge creating this "never ending" look.  SO RAD!

Once I finish constructing my home on SIMS I'll post..... I'm a sucker software of that type.
You guys should go pick up one of those 3D home and landscape programs. You can find them in Walmart for about $60.

Paradise [ip] Re: Your Dream Home

Im single with no kids...my dream home right now is a nice condo near the beach.  A 2/2 would be cool.

I would love this....

Its so much better to never lose it, than to lose it and get it back--you can always tell the difference. With that said, most people never get it back, so if you get it back after you lost it, thats better than losing it forever.

Re: Your Dream Home
I totally agree with forevershopping. I want something with a lot of space for my horses. At least a 10-stall barn, and indoor riding ring, an outdoor sand ring and an oudoor grass ring. I grew up on a farm so basically I want the same thing for myself when it's that time!

This puppy in Southhampton... that sadly is going for seven million.  But then again, it is in the Hamptons. Well, duh. Sad [:(]

Does anyone have pix of Jennie Garth's house?  I believe someone posted them on the old Lux.  They might be from instyle mag, but not sure.  I remember loving that house.

Re: Your Dream Home

Darryl Hannah's house sounds amazing.

I've always been partial to very modern design.  I like the severity of the lines and the sleekness of everything and the kind of "bare bones" structure.  When you get houses that are trying to look overly classic and "cozy" and whatnot, there's just all this stuff that really isn't necessary.  When reading "The Fountainhead" I wished so much that there was a person like Roark and that he could design a house for me, because everything in that book sounded amazing and exactly like what I like.

Re: Your Dream Home
I would want a huge european styled home, but modern at the same time. I could go into details about what it would look like and all that, but I would honestly write for an hour and still not be done! The only thing I can think of that is PERFECT for what  I want is like how Lauren Conrad's swimming pool is in Laguna Beach, I would want something similar to that. Her house is gorgeous, but I'd want mine a LITTLE more modern.
