"CARMEN ELECTRA- Full Frontal Fashion Talking Head"
4:00 pm, Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007. 71st st between York & 1st Avenues. CARMEN ELECTRA bolts out of a white stone, institutional-looking building on far East 71st Street. I've been watching Carmen host "Full Frontal Fashion" all week on WNYC-TV, so she must have just attended some type of fashion-related event there. Carmen is the kind of woman that many men think is incredibly hot, but her hyper-sexuality & overdone everything has rarely appealed to me, if ever. Even on "Full Frontal," when you'd think the producers would try to style her in some type of modern, fashion-savvy ensemble, she looks overly-made up and far too L.A. - "Baywatch," utterly lacking in chic Manhattanite style, Park Avenue or otherwise.
Today she's wearing a wheat-coloured, long wool cardigan sweater jacket. I picture this kind of bulky cover-up more appropriate to a blustery day in Newport Beach, California, circa early autumn, maybe 1992. I'm sure the long cardigan covers up a slinky and revealing top underneath; a few hours later I spot Carmen on NYC TV wearing a tight metallic cut-away halter-top with her nipples perkily wishing the viewers well. The weave of the cabled wool cardigan jacket is pretty thick, you can see in between the stitches. Quite a contrast from the vintage wool Lacoste oatmeal tennis cardigans that I sport, with tight, fine miniature stitching. Carmen is wearing indigo blue jeans, I didnt spot a label or ass pocket logo in the few seconds I saw her, but they were new-ish, and very tight from thigh to foot. The cardigan was so long that it fell below her waist. This afternoon was fairly rainy in NYC, but still I think a cardigan was a bit much on a humid early September day, and it somewhat over-whelmed her busty but petite form, for those who wished to see.
As Carmen scampered into a big black Lincoln Navigator, I saw her shoes were beige or light brown with a high chunky heel and straps across the foot & toes. I thought the combo of the tan shoe with a stacked heel and the dark indigo of the jeans was extremely Queens or Jersey, so blatant, overtly 'sexy' and unsubtle. I think Carmen wore high heels not just for sexiness, but also because she's a bit short. I would peg her at perhaps 5'4", but since some of that is heels, she may even be a bit less. Her full, Farrah Fawcett-like blonde wavy mane was extremely fake looking in person: on TV she has a somewhat impressive, sun-kissed, news-hostess honey blonde hairdo, but in person her medium to dark brown roots were far too obvious and the fake shiny light golden blonde dye lent her a brassy & cheapened effect. As I walked by her, and Carmen darted into the puffy SUV, we looked at each other for a few moments, and I must admit her shining green eyes are quite impressive. They really are cat-like, gleaming on a cloudy day like piercing shimmering marbles.
I suppose WNYC is trying to sex up its "Full Frontal" coverage of the Spring '08 shows by casting Carmen as presenter. She's certainly had a diverse career, singing with Prince, warring with husband Dennis Rodman, "Baywatch" beach bimbo, marrying Dave Navarro, "Scary Movie," and Playboy. Actually I think the Playboy spreads I saw on her are my favourites of her career, her buxom, dynamo frame and in your face sexuality perfectly at home popping out of Playboy as she preens. At NYC Fashion Week she stands out as too slutty, dumbed-down in her dubious Earth Mother - TV hostess ensembles, compared to the willowy models and fey, catty hosts. Having spied Carmen this afternoon, I was intrigued to see her via video at 9:00 pm tonight. I imagine these wraparounds were filmed a few days ago: most of the shows they introduce are from late last week or this past weekend. On tonight's show, Carmen's brown hair is in a pony-tail, not nearly as fake as it looked in person this afternoon. She could well have had it lightened this week, she looked so brassy and glossy today. Rather than her cable-knit, long cardigan from this afternoon, on TV tonight Carmen smiled at us in a sleeve-less, bronze halter top, and way too much makeup, especially around the eyes. Her eye liner would make Pete Wentz blush. She was hot in Playboy though, I've got to dig those issues out of the olde archive, just to see how they stand up.
