Laser Hair Removal or IPL ??

Hello everyone,
I've been shopping and searching different options for hair removal/ reduction... and I've got 3 options for underarms: I leave in Montreal so CDN prices. this is the info I've understood until now... if anyone has other notes/ contradictions?...
Ng:Yag Known as an older laser method, a little less performant that the Diode LightSheer laser but same result. LCI Lasercom offers 6 sessions for 60$ per session. Semi professional place, very helpful consultation, did patch test and tolerable pain.
IPL (Intense Pulse Light) Known as the new technology for hair reduction, cases of no obvious hair reduction in first treatments, but suppose to be more results that laser. A&T Laser offers downtown Montreal, professional office but my consultation was pretty unpleasant. Consultant only was talking about payment and that treatment needs to be prepaid for 10 treatments. Hardly talked about how the system works on the hair and did not want to do a patch test. 10 treatments (reimbursable if not all 10 are used) - 40$ each treatment with in between visits.
Diode SheerLight known as a more advanced laser than the Ng:Yag; very obvious hair reduction in second treatment. DermaMode offers it in downtown Montreal, professional, very constructive consultation, pleasant esthetician, professional look to the office. She said that alot of patients that had IPL comes to see her after... 6 treatments for 50$ each - free touch ups afterwards.
SO WHAT TREATMENT SHOULD I GO FOR PEEPS?? THANKS!

those treatment prices are a whole helluva lot cheaper than what you can get them for in my city.
I wouldn't be overly concerned about the type of laser you treat on...I think most people in that business are sheisters that are going to tell you anything about their lasers that will undercut their competition. but to my knowledge, YAG lasers are specifically for African-Americans, Asians & Indians & are basically ineffective on caucasians so I'd clarify that before getting tx'd on it. and IPL's are new technology alright, but they're used for laser resurfacing...which means they target hyperpigmentation, wrinkles & scars, NOT hair reduction.
after clarifying with that with your esthetician, I'd also focus on what they're telling you about treatment schedules, settings & number of treatments you need..you should be on a schedule where you get tx'd every 6-8 weeks--anything less will be ineffectual. if anyone gurantees results, I'd be instantly skeptical & probably take my business elsewhere. hormonal surges can cause your body to produce new follicles so how can anybody gurantee results? all they can honestly gurantee is inexpensive touch-ups.
all that being said, I've tx'd my bikini, underarms & legs & I'm very happy with it. I'm currently doing IPL tx's on the few freckles that I have on my chest & shoulders & I'm happy with that as well.
good luck to ya!~
you're welcome.

Hey Bethy, well this puts me in confidence - I do want to go for the last options. All prices are promo prices - I guess there is alot of price battling in Montreal.
I've heard that IPL is used for other treatments, but really i've read that IPL is also for hair reduction.
I'm not expecting total hair removal as I know little hairs will always grow back - I'm just annoyed of having that shadow even when shaved... No clinic has mentioned full guarantee, but all told me in how many treatments to expect the most results.
I'm curious, how much are treatments over there in?...
thanks!

going rate around here is about $1500 for 5 tx's on bikini & underarms.
IPL's are about $400/tx.
you're welcome.

I am currently getting IPL...they use the Aurora/Elos laser. Yesterday, I just had my 7th treatment on my underarms, 6th treatment on my chin/upper lip (getting it on the chin too because I am prone to cystic acne there and the laser can help with that), and my 5th treatment on my bikini area. I am thrilled with it so far. I'm brunette and fair skinned, so I'm an ideal candidate for laser hair removal. Before I started the treatments, my underarm and bikini area hairs were so coarse I couldn't go through with waxing...it was incredibly painful. Now, I barely shave once a week. I'll probably need 10 to 12 treatments total.

yeah, it's pretty high but I shopped that rate around & it seems about standard for my area.
I treated with a cream that's 4% lidocaine but if I had to do over, I'd use a 6% on my legs...that was the toughest to get through. I think you'd have to get an rx for that, though. just use whatever your spa offers.
you're welcome.

I really want to find a aenasthetic that won't take an hour to work - i usually go right after work, so it's quite impossible for me to put a cream an hour before the treatment...
i'm not too sure if the lidocaine sprays will work deep enough...
I went last tuesday, and my underarms still hurt... not THAT much.. but when i put deodorant, it'S like if i got burnt a bit and it's healing :S
