NYC Decor/Furniture Shop Recommendations
I'm moving to Manhattan this week and my apartment will be completly bare! I decided to donate all my old furniture and start fresh with the new place. I need some good tips on where to find INEXPENSIVE, unique items for my home. I already know about IKEA in Dirty Jersey, but I am looking for good secondhand shops/vintage stores that carry distinct pieces (lamps, knick knacks, wall art). Know any?

Also, this is kinda particular, but I am looking for curtain fabric with Russian/Hungarian/Eastern European influence (ornate flowers, embroidery, yada yada yada). What's a good place to start?

My apologies! I heart Jersey; I even looked at some really great units in Hoboken. Dirty Jersey is just a silly name my friends & I use to refer to the state, based on a recent trip to Atlantic City. I'm a fan, not a hater :)

How recent was this trip?    I live not too far from Atlantic City and I must admit that I am quite pleased about the new renovations. The new casinos.  The new mall on the boardwalk (Burberry, Tiffany's, Bottega Veneta, Coach, Betsey Johnson, BCBG, MAC, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, you get the idea, etc...), and then of course.. the outlets.    Of course, the olde Jersey boardwalk shops and porn shops are still there... but like I said, I am quite pleased for Atlantic City. Smile [:)]

I was just kidding...being from Jersey, I hear a lot of crap about the smells, the dirtiness...and we all know Jersey rocks!  I'm temporarily living in the Buffalo area (to soon relocate back to Jersey), and when I tell people I'm from Jersey, I get a range of comments (most negative).  Of course, people from Buffalo are used to negative comments about Buffalo, so go figure...

Yeah, I heard they are totally building up Atlantic City...trying to make it somewhat Vegas-esque.  I think that's great...Atlantic City needed a makeover!

You probably got the furniture already but I like West Elm.  It's in Chelsea.  I also like Room & Board in Soho.
